World No Tobacco Day

Tobacco is the second major cause of death in the world. About 5 million people die each year of tobacco related causes – this accounts for the death of one in ten adults worldwide. To draw global attention to the tobacco epidemic and to the preventable death and disease it causes, the World Health Organization introduced World No Tobacco Day in 1987. It has since been celebrated on May 31. 2012's theme for World No Tobacco Day is "Tobacco industry interference" which focuses on the need to expose and counter the tobacco industry's brazen and increasingly aggressive attempts to undermine global tobacco control efforts.
