Water is the world’s greatest life source, yet, in many parts of the world, water resources are scarce. Over a billion people live without access to safe drinking water and droughts caused by water scarcity threaten the livelihoods of many more. Furthermore, water scarcity causes environmental damage, resulting in the loss of rare and beautiful habitats. Growing out of the 1992 UN Conference on Environment and Development in Rio de Janeiro, World Day of Water invites NGOs and States to highlight this issue and to set up concrete activities at the national level preventing a further deterioration of water resources. Help protect the earth's water by celebrating World Day of Water!
