International Day of United Nations Peacekeepers
There are currently 120 000 UN peacekeepers serving in 17 missions globally. During it's history, close to 3000 peacekeepers have died. On May 29, events are held all over the world to memorialize the fallen UN peacekeepers who paid the ultimate price in the pursuit of peace. It is also a day to remember and salute the many men and women from countries all over the world who are serving in one of the most noble callings. For over 60 years, peacekeeping has proven one of the best tools to help assist countries on the often rocky road from conflict to a stable and peaceful society.
