International Day of Rural Women

Many rural women around the world suffer from poverty, illiteracy, and hunger. Educational poverty is extremely high among rural women and girls. At the same time, in rural areas, women participate often in farming to provide food for their families, and they have an important role in caring for children and elderly people. In order to make progress in developing rural economic growth and gender equity, we need to improve women’s access to education, especially in rural areas. International Day of Rural Women recognizes the important contribution of rural women, and aims to empower them. The goal is to enhance the rural development, eliminate rural poverty and improve gender equity as well as food safety.
