International Day of Happiness

The United Nations was formed with the intention to guard peace and human rights, eradicate poverty, and support sustainable development. All these objectives all point to one overarching goal – happiness for all people. The General Assembly proclaimed March 20 as the International Day of Happiness after all 193 UN member states agreed to adopt the calling of happiness and well-being as universal goals. On this day, we recognize the efforts of nations, like Bhutan, who have begun to use measurements of happiness and well-being to determine a country’s prosperity. Celebrate this day by doing something, big or small, in your community that will put a smile on someone's face and make them happy.
