World Population Day

World Population Day is observed each July 11th. Population stands at the intersection of multiple global issues including gender equality, reproductive health and sustainable development. The current world population of 7.2 billion increases by about 250,000 every day, and is expected to grow by 1 billion over the next twelve years. This rate of growth is a huge opportunity for development, but it also has profound implications on urbanization, sustainability, and access to health care. As such, increasing global awareness of issues like family planning, gender equality, and reproductive and maternal health, is essential for sustainable development and poverty reduction.
