November 25: International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women |
Violence against women and girls is a universal problem of epidemic proportions. It is estimated that at least one out of every three women around the world has been abused in her lifetime, with the abuser usually someone known to her. Violence against women in any form is a human rights violation that can devastate lives. As fear and shame still prevent many women from speaking out, International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women seeks to move the issue into the public eye.
