November 16: International Day for Tolerance
The International Day for Tolerance is observed every year at November 16 to generate public awareness of the dangers of intolerance. Over the past years, acts of intolerance, violence, terrorism and racism have been on the rise. They are often directed at the most vulnerable members in our society: national, ethnic, religious and linguistic minorities, refugees, migrant workers and immigrants. As intolerance is a threat to the consolidation of peace and democracy and an obstacle to development, International Day for Tolerance reminds all of us of the dignity and worth of every human person and encourages us to live together in peace.

Organize an Open Forum!
What better way to celebrate International Day for Tolerance than to organize an Open Forum with different groups from your community? Do you know where that girl in your class is from and what she eats for dinner every night? How about that old man who you see having a walk in the park every afternoon – aren’t you curious where he is from and what stories he has to tell? Organize and Open Forum in your school or community and invite everyone to join it, no matter what national or religious background the person has, how old he or she is or where the person grew up. Get together, break down the barriers and learn from each other.
